QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA? Some bands forge ahead and follow trends when it comes to music; others like Bad Days for Mary stick to their guns.

For every band like the Eraserheads or Rivermaya that ?broke? out during the Nineties, there were a handful more indie bands that became part of the alternative music scene.

Bad Days for Mary was among those bands who were mainstays of indie productions, which also meant a constant presence at Club Dredd.

?Back then, each band has distinct quality of music and you can actually identify which band is playing,?says Mad Abril, the band?s keyboardist.

?Even those bands that continue to play until now are so easy to identify if they are from the 90s because most of the music from that era are truly original.?

Bad Days for Mary released an album titled ?Let?s Talk of More Pleasant Things?, which the band itself describes as cheerful music with songs such as ?You Did the Right Thing?, ?Spilt Milk? and ?Donuts in Bed?.

Mad says their songs often tackle failed relationships and some bitter-sweet ?bits? about? life.

?(Bad Days for) Mary is not only for women, but it simply represents every person who are having a bad day and want to find comfort (through our music),? says guitarist Ixan Subido.

Both band members say they chose to remain indie ? they admit lying low during the ?Y2K era?, which meant most of the previous decade ? but are now becoming more active, playing gigs every now and then.

?We chose to be independent because there?s a lot freedom when you get to produce your own song without worrying how ?label holders? would like it,? says Mad.

?Based on observation, most of the songs from Nineties? have more emotion and are really closer to the heart of the audience, Most music nowadays are simply catchy.?

Bad Days for Mary is composed of Tin Garcia (vocals), Ebong Li?an (guitars), Mavs Li?an (bass), Chad Villanueva (drums) and Ingrid Tavoy (violin), Ixan Subido (guitars) and Mad Abril (keyboards).
